Michelle Obama - first president's wife on reality TV

Since President Barack Obama took office, his family have given the public a warm insight into the life of the US First Family.

Michelle is now taking their openness a step further with an appearance on reality cooking contest, Iron Chef America. 

Becoming the first presidential wife to grace a reality TV show, her episode has been filmed in the White House kitchen, and shows her using ingredients from her own vegetable patch.

The mum-of-two has taken part in the show to promote her healthy living campaign, and the importance of children eating vegetables.

The panel of judges on the programme - which is due to hit screens in the New Year - includes top British chef Nigella Lawson, and actress Jane Seymour.
