Former amateur gymnast Pamela Anderson has clearly lost none of her sporting spirit - the Baywatch star stepped in to save a young hopeful's Olympic dream.
Mohini Bhardwaj was almost forced to drop out of the US squad when financial difficulties started to get on top of her. Friends of the 27-year-old decided to hold a raffle in a last ditch attempt to send her to the Games, and, when offered a ticket, Pamela decided to take action.
The athlete would have been forgiven for feeling a little surprised when Pammy walked into the gym to see her train. But she was nothing short of stunned when the 37-year-old star handed over a cheque for $25,000 to ensure she'd make it to the Olympics.
The investment paid off on Monday afternoon, when Mohini and her team-mates took the silver medal in the women's vault and floor event.
"Being in debt was stressful," said the gymnast afterwards. "You're just in debt and miserable and it just alleviated a lot of stress on my part." She also revealed that her newfound friend and patron had offered some moral support, too. "She sent me a huge bouquet of flowers before I came out here," said Mohini. "I talk to her once in a while."
