The seven-minute clip stars the singer as a pageant queen striving to achieve beauty and perfection. It begins with an a cappella performance from the popstar as she showcases her pageant talent, before the camera cuts backstage to show her fighting with other contestants over hairspray and rollers, weighing herself and having her measurements taken.
Lyrics to the song include, "Perfection is the disease of the nation. Pageant the pain away," and Beyoncé can be seen tirelessly working out, being sprayed with fake tan, throwing up and being poked with a botox needle in the video.
To help promote the body-positive message of the song, Beyoncé and Time have asked fans to upload photos or videos to Instagram with the tag #WhatIsPretty.
