South African Olympic medallist Chad Le Clos has made a young girl's dream come true by accompanying her to a high school dance. Melanie Olhaus secured the date after bunking off school earlier this year to greet the South African Olympic team as they returned home.
At the airport, Melanie, 17, held up a sign asking 'Chad will you be my matric dance date?' And, after spotting the sign, the 20-year-old swimmer agreed.Chad made headlines during the summer by beating Michael Phelps in the 200m butterfly at the 2012 London Oympic Games.Princess Charlene cheered the swimmer to victory alongside her husband, Prince Albert. In the lead up to his date with Melanie, Chad said he was looking forward to the dance as swimming commitments meant he had been unable to fully enjoy his own.
And this weekend he accompanied Melanie, who was dressed by one of the country's top designers, Gert Johann Coetzee, to the event at the Birchwood Hotel in Johannesburg.
Speaking afterwards Melanie said she felt like a "princess" and that she'd an "amazing" time and "so much fun with Chad".
