Cristiano Ronaldo had plenty of reason to celebrate over the weekend, when he was named Real Madrid's all-time leading goal scorer. The football star was honoured in a special ceremony attended by his family and friends, including his sweet mini-me son Cristiano Ronaldo Jr.
Cristiano, 30, looked as proud as punch to receive the custom-made trophy and thanked his loved ones and fans for their support. The popular sportsman shared his moment in the spotlight with his little boy and his doting mother Maria Dolores dos Santos Aveiro.
"To me it's an honour to receive this award," said Cristiano, speaking at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium. "I didn't expect it. When I wore Real Madrid's jersey for the first time I never imagined that one day I would become the club's greatest scorer, surpassing my friend Raul (Gonzalez) and the late (Alfredo) Di Stefano. I'm very happy."
Cristiano Ronaldo was supported by his adorable five-year-old son and his mum Dolores
Last week Cristiano scored his 323rd and 324th goals in Madrid's win over Malmo in a Champions League game in Sweden. He also surpassed the 500 mark for career goals for club and country.
Club president Florentino Perez gave a speech honouring the Portuguese champion.
"It's a very emotional day for all Real Madrid fans," said Mr Perez. "One of our own has achieved something that was considered almost impossible to achieve. Only through his talent, his hard work and his determination was this possible. His name already is a legend in Real Madrid. I hope the legend will keep on going."
Cristiano Ronaldo Jr was born in June 2010 but his mother's identity has never been revealed
During the ceremony Cristiano was pictured kissing his trophy before handing it to his son to proudly hold. The adorable five-year-old smiled shyly at the camera as his photo was taken.
Cristiano also shared his achievement on Instagram, writing: "Never imagined to achieve this record when I arrived in Real Madrid six years ago. It's an honour to be the all-time leading goal scorer for Real Madrid and I have to thank my teammates, coaches, the president, everyone at Real Madrid and my family, friends and all the fans for always supporting me. I'm very happy to be living this special moment. #halamadrid."
