Sultry Mexican actress Salma Hayek's "universal beauty" is expected to further spice up the image of a 118-year-old cosmetics company, as she signs on to an exclusive global advertising contract with the familiar firm.Salma is the new face of Avon, a brand which has undergone a glamorous overhaul in the past couple of years, signing on a string of sexy spokeswomen including Atomic Kitten, tennis divas Venus and Serena Williams and British TV actress Tamzin Outhwaite.
And now the brand's newest Avon lady is set to star in print and TV ads as she promotes both the venerable make-up firm and one of its major charitable causes, the fight against domestic violence.
"Salma's universal beauty will appeal to our broad and diverse customer base," says CEO Andrea Jung. "Her personal story and values are a perfect fit for us, and we have a shared commitment to the empowerment and well-being of women."
The Oscar-nominated star is similarly enthusiastic about the new deal. "I'm very optimistic that in joining forces with Avon, we can truly make a difference in the cause of domestic violence and bring hope… to women around the world," she says.
