Kate Moss has acquired a new set of wheels with some serious street cred - a black London taxi cab. Over the weekend the supermodel took the vehicle for a spin, acting as the driver for a group of friends on a trip down to the pub.

On Saturday night Croydon-born Kate ferried a bunch of girl pals, including party organiser Fran Cutler, from Paradise Pub in Kensal Green, North London, back to her house in St John's Wood. "Kate was so excited - she was giggling like a kid in a sweet shop," said an onlooker.

Owning cool transportation has always been a matter of pride for the famous cover girl. Her rides in the past have included an MG Midget and a sleek 1964 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud. Last year she turned up at the Glastonbury music festival with former love Pete Doherty in an impeccably appropriate VW camper van.

Her new purchase means Kate joins the ranks of other celebrity 'cabbies' such as Prince Philip and Londoner Stephen Fry, who regards the traditional form of transport as a nifty way to get around the capital.
