David Beckham has revealed a new tattoo on his torso. The footballing star wowed fans when he lifted his shirt to unveil his latest inking. The tattoo, made up of Chinese characters, is said to read: "Life and death are determined by fate, rank and riches decreed by Heaven." The father-of-four unveiled the tattoo on Sunday while greeting the huge crowds who had gathered to meet the football star at Peking University. The students were thrilled to get the first glimpse of David's new body art and let out loud cheers.
David is said to have 14 other tattoos, including one of his wife Victoria Beckham on his left forearm. The body art depicts Victoria as an angel surrounded by stars. It's wrapped around a previous design - a Hindi inscription of his wife's name. "They are both thrilled with the result," a source revealed shortly after it was unveiled. "It has been beautifully done. Victoria is flattered." "He thinks she’s his angel," added a pal. "Which is why he got an image of her among the stars." Another of David's tattoos shows a Renaissance painting of Cupid carrying his wife Psyche to Heaven. It seems the footballer may have been a little too shy to display all of the original picture when he had it etched onto his arm recently, though. The father-of-three seemingly modified the painting to show a piece of fabric delicately covering an intimate part of Psyche's body. That particular tattoo came just two months after he had a Jesus Christ design inked in memory of his late grandfather, Joe West.
David is nearing the end of a five-day tour of China as an ambassador for football. With appearances scheduled at local clubs and schools, the football star is aiming to inspire more young people to get involved with the sport. His first stop was a school auditorium, where he told a group of children that he was proud to be involved in the development of football in China. "I'm excited by the prospect of promoting the world's greatest game to Chinese sports fans as I’ve seen firsthand the growing interest in football there," the former England captain said. "This is a wonderful sport that inspires people across the world and brings families together, so I'm relishing the opportunity of introducing more fans to the game." The sport's reputation in China is damaged following a match-fixing scandal that saw handfuls of officials, players and referees jailed or banned. In addition, the country did not qualify for the 2014 World Cup. But David is keen not to get involved with any of the controversy. "I'm not a politician so anything that has gone on in the past has nothing to do with me," he said. "It's as simple as that," he continued. "I am not here to clear up anything. I am here to educate the children and give them a chance of becoming professional footballers." David's four-day visit will include training sessions with primary schoolchildren and visits to football clubs in Beijing, Qingdao and Wuhan.
