George Clooney has apologised to the residents of the Italian village of Laglio for the disruption caused by him and his Ocean's Twelve co-stars.
The actor, who owns a £7-million villa in the picturesque community on the shores of Lake Como, penned a note to his neighbours. And inhabitants awoke on Thursday to find the missive, in English and accompanied by an Italian translation, on their doorsteps.
"I am writing to say thank you for accepting me into your community," penned the star. "I'm sorry for the inconvenience that I have brought, but I just want to live in the fabulous village of Laglio and walk on its beautiful streets." Locals were apparently put out when scenes from Ocean's Twelve were filmed at George's vacation getaway. Fans swamped Laglio in an effort to catch a glimpse of Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Julia Roberts.
The Hollywood invasion meant officials were forced to close the streets around the former ER star's villa, while a no-fly zone had to be implemented and sailing was restricted on Lake Como.
However, the personal touch seems to have done the trick in helping mollify George's Italian neighbours. Laglio's mayor, Giuseppe Mantero, was quoted as saying: "With this letter, Mr Clooney has shown what an honourable man he is. He has shown how he enjoys sharing with us the privilege of living in such a beautiful place. We are proud to have him here."
