Having been out of the Hollywood spotlight recently academy award winner Jodie Foster made an appearance at the premiere of A Very Long Engagement in Los Angeles on Wednesday. The gala affair marked the stateside debut of director’s Jean Pierre Jeunet’s highly anticipated follow up to hit Amelie.

Jodie opted for a subtle classic look, in a black suit, strappy sandals and matching purse. Her co-star Audrey Tautou made a rather exotic red carpet entrance. The 26-year old French actress best known for her lead role as Amelie Polain, looked elegantly oriental in a black and pink floral embroidered kimono-style outfit.

The film marks Jodie’s return to the screen following a brief hiatus after her lead role in the 2002 thriller The Panic Room. The bilingual actress who stars in a supporting role as a soldier’s wife, has been praised by critics for her ability to blend in seamlessly in her French-speaking role.

Set amidst the trench warfare in France during World War One, A Very Long Engagement tells the story of a young woman’s relentless search for her fiancée who has disappeared from the trenches. The film opens in theatres in across the UK in January 2005.
