Night out for Lizzie and Mr Darcy

Mr Darcy and Elizabeth Bennett hobnobbing without a care in the world is not exactly how Jane Austen wrote it. Fans of Pride And Prejudice would have been reassured, however, to note that the occasion was actually the after-show party for the London premiere of the classic novel's latest adaptation. The film's stars Keira Knightley and Matthew MacFadyen were there to toast its success.

While there was tension aplenty on the set, in real life Keira has nothing but praise for her hunky co-star. "He's brilliant. A real English gent. The great thing about Matthew is he's a really big guy but he's also intensely vulnerable," she said.

Matthew took wife and fellow Spooks star Keeley Hawes to the bash, where they partied alongside the likes Sophie Okonedo of Hotel Rwanda fame and Alicia Silverstone.

Following her recent split from model Jamie Dorman, all eyes were on the actress, to see who would get the chance to escort her to the glitzy event. She revealed that her "date" for the evening was none other than her big brother Caleb, asking, "Is that sad?".

Earlier at the Leicester Square premiere, however, the starlet, who was clad in a daring purple gown with a plunging neckline, happily signed autographs for fans. Her normally elfin crop had been augmented, with hair extensions which cascaded down her back for an ultra feminine look. "It's my Pirates Of The Caribbean look," she explained, referring to the sequel of her hit 2003 movie which she is currently shooting.
