Jennifer Aniston has left her fans in little doubt that she is putting the past behind her. The former Friends star was clearly back on top form when she turned out for the premiere of her latest movie looking positively luminous in a glittering golden gown. The popular actress is believed to have bounced back from the break-up of her marriage to Brad Pitt by starting a new romance with Vince Vaughn. And she is also hoping her new film, which sees her playing a character nothing like the ditzy Rachel Green she is best-known for, will show the world she has the talent for more complex roles.

Derailed is a gritty drama in which her hard-bitten businesswoman embarks on an affair with another executive played by British actor Clive Owen. "She's not the softest," explained the 36-year-old. "There was definitely a moment of 'Oh gosh, I hope I can pull this off'."

In stark contrast to the light-hearted storylines of Jen's other films, her character in the new movie experiences the harrowing ordeal of a rape. Industry sources across the pond believe it may mark a turning point in her career, as she has recently signed up to star in two more dramas.

Asked whether she is indeed waving goodbye to the 'America's Sweetheart' label that is so often applied to her, Jennifer said: "I hope so." Being one of the United States' most adored women is obviously not without its benefits, though, because the actress changed her answer a moment later. "No, you know what? I believe the America's Sweetheart label," she joked. "I'm not trying to shake anything."
