In the course of his career he's lost weight, gained weight, delivered a Rhodesian accent and tackled Shakespeare, all in the name of his craft. Now Leonardo DiCaprio has set his sights on a new challenge, brushing up his vocal range in order to play Frank Sinatra.
Spurred on by the thought of taking the lead in Martin Scorsese's upcoming bio-pic Sinatra, which focuses on the Rat Packer's ties to the Mafia, the actor has hired the services of a top voice coach to help him mimic Ol' Blue Eyes' distinctive style.
"He is a massive fan of the singer and has always wanted to play him," says a source. "He would be sick on missing out on the leading role because his singing wasn’t up to scratch."
Martin, who's worked with the 34-year-old on a number of projects, including Gangs Of New York, The Aviator and The Departed, is reportedly keen to cast Leonardo in the film but insists he needs to master Sinatra's legendary crooning.
He'll have his work cut out for him - Jamie Foxx and Harry Connick Jr are also said to be in the frame.
