Meet the cast of Marcella series three

Anna Friel reprises her role with a new series and some new faces in the cast

After what feels like forever, Marcella is finally returning to screens for its third series on Tuesday night. The new episodes, which will see Anna Friel reprise her role as the troubled detective, will see Marcella at the forefront of the show once again, but not as we know her.

This time, she's fled her life in England and relocated to Belfast working undercover and with a new identity, Keira, as she seeks to infiltrate the infamous Maguire family. The ITV synopsis reads: "In true Marcella style, the series has interweaving storylines with strands focusing upon the Maguires' criminal operations.

"As she inhabits the character of Keira, Marcella's quest for the truth puts her in danger and others in harm's way. Her undercover role makes her take risks, but will her old life eventually catch up with her?"

The third series will see a couple of familiar faces return, but will mainly include new cast members. Ahead of episode one, meet the cast below…

Anna Friel as Marcella Backland/Keira

Anna Friel will return as leading character, Marcella. The actress is perhaps best known for her work as the detective in the ITV drama, but she has had many other notable roles, too. In her early career, Anna appeared in Brookside as Beth and has also starred in Pushing Daisies. Her film credits include, Limitless, The Look of Love and Land of the Lost.

Hugo Speer as Frank Young

We first met Frank Young, played by Hugo Speer, at the end of series two as Marcella's undercover handler and he's set to make a return to the show for series three. Fans will recognise Hugo Speer from his work in The Musketeers, The Full Monty and Britannia.

Ray Panthaki as DI Rav Sangha

DI Rav Sangha has been a staple character in the show since the beginning and Ray Panthaki is set to reprise the role for series three, too. Ray has appeared in plenty of other shows such as Away on Netflix and films such as Official Secrets. He's also starred in theatre productions with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Amanda Burton as Katherine Maguire

Amanda Burton plays matriarch of the chilling and infamous Maguire family, Katherine. Viewers will recognise Amanda from her work in Waterloo Road and Silent Witness. She also appeared with co-star Anna Friel in Brookside.

Amanda Burton is joining the cast

Aaron McCusker as Finn Maguire

Finn Maguire is Amanda's son. Finn has a business mind and has used his skills to the Maguire family's advantage in Belfast. Playing Finn is Aaron McCusker, who played Jamie Maguire in Shameless on Channel 4. Fans will also recognise him from the Oscar-winning Bohemian Rhapsody, in which he played Freddie Mercury's boyfriend Jim Hutton.

Michael Colgan as Rory Maguire

Acting as the family lawyer is Rory Maguire and he is played by Michael Colgan. Michael's credits include The Thick of It, Chernobyl and Raw.

Kelly Gough as Stacey Maguire

The daughter and youngest child in the Maguire family is Stacey and is played by Kelly Gough. Stacey is currently pregnant and doesn't always get involved in the family business and politics. Kelly has had a number of roles in other popular TV dramas such as The Fall, Broadchurch, Vera and Call the Midwife.

Martin McCann as Bobby Barrett

Playing Stacey's wayward husband Bobby is Martin McCann who is seemingly out of his depth in the family unit. Martin's credits include Death and Nightingales and The Pacific.

Stacey's husband Bobby is played by Martin McCann

Paul Kennedy as Lawrence Corrigan

Lawrence Corrigan is the Maguire family accountant and the first contact Marcella (as Keira) has with the Maguire family. Soon, he and Keira start dating. Paul has appeared in many other popular shows like Outlander and Game of Thrones.

Lawrence is Marcella's love-interest and is played Paul Kennedy

Nicholas Pinnock as Jason Backland

Jason is Marcella's ex-husband and father of her children. Fans will recognise Nicholas thanks to his parts in Top Boy and Fortitude. It is not yet known whether Nicholas will be reprising his role for the new series, we'll have to wait and see!
