It's neat, chic and worn by the formidable style queen herself, Anna Wintour. We are, of course, talking about the timeless shoulder-length hairstyle – the bob.And many of the world's most famous stars are following in her fashionable footsteps, including the likes of Brits Fearne Cotton, Kiera Knightley and Emma Watson.

Even America's first lady Michelle Obama recently updated her smart shoulder-skimming tresses with layers and a statement fringe debuting the look at the second inauguration of her husband, Barack Obama, as President of the United States. The National Television Awards on Wednesday also saw the dancing competition contestant and Girls Aloud singer Kimberley Walsh add a touch of glamour to the classic cut with a glossing treatment and soft curls that were lifted at the root.

As the 31-year-old tossed back her honeycomb-coloured tresses there was plenty to celebrate. Not only did Strictly Come Dancing scoop up its first award for 'Best Talent Show', but the singer made her first solo performance at the ceremony.

Nicole Richie followed suit with the on-trend ombre tone tweeting a photo of herself on Tuesday being pampered at the salons opting for another chop.

The American fashionista has previously worn the look before, styling her hair in vintage fashion with a petite bob. Having rolled her hair into waves close to the face, she scored many beauty points for her 1920's 'do at the first Baby2Baby charity gala in November before growing out her curls for lengthier locks. And as the mum-of-two takes the leap once again for a shorter refreshing look to the new year, sporting a gorgeous rose gold Cartier 'Love' Bracelet in her photo, she added a simple summary caption to her Tweet: "✂B.O.B ✂".
