Anya Taylor-Joy brings dopamine dressing to the red carpet at the 2023 Golden Globes

Yellow is anything but mellow...

Since her leading role in The Queen’s Gambit, Anya Taylor-Joy has been one to watch for her sartorial performances too, as her special occasion uniform never disappoints.

Last night’s Golden Globe awards was no different, as she looked dreamy in Dior at the event held at the Beverly Hilton in California. Her red carpet agenda for the evening was ‘ultimate sophistication’, wearing a silky satin co-ord that possessed an ultra chic straight-column silhouette.

The joy-inducing mustard yellow ensemble boasted a flawless (though it did in fact reach the floor) sweeping wraparound skirt. The flattering maxi tied together effortlessly with an extended piece of material that draped elegantly from the hip. The high-waisted style nailed giving a lengthier leg illusion, which was amplified by the tiny cropped matching top that showcased her killer abs – a bold sartorial trend that dominated summer 2022.

Dopamine dressing is also a style that's had its moment over the last year or so. As Hello! Fashion's Orin Carlin tells you in our guide to dopamine dressing: "Dopamine dressing is a pretty simple concept. The idea is that a pop of colour in our clothing can alter how we think and act – for the better." It's exactly what we need durng this gloomy January.

The back of her co-ord gave subtly elevated the ensemble

It was subtle touches that elevated this look, and matching the skirt’s waistline design was the tie back of the bandeau. It boasted material that fed through two hooks, and was fastened into a delicate bow which fell from her back down the length of her skirt.

Is any jeweller more timeless than Tiffany & Co? Accompanying her yellow ensemble was a dazzling tonal gold necklace that perfectly balanced being observable but not too OTT. And the matching bracelet on her wrist heightened the glamour. Anya wore her Targaryen-esque blonde tresses poker straight, with the front twisted and gripped up on one side (2010, is that you?) allowing chunky diamond earring bijouterie to have its moment in the spotlight.

As timelessly sophisticated as this look was, we love that The Menu actress opted for long pointed chrome yellow nails for the evening – giving a contemporary feel.

Though Anya is unafraid to experiment with unusual silhouettes (take her neo baroque inspired dress for the Harpers Bazaar Women of the Year awards), it seems less statement, more straight-cut silhouettes are the opposing style that also sit high on her wardrobe agenda heading into 2023. In November she donned a classic black slip dress at a special screening of The Menu, whilst later that month she took the silhouette and made it shorter, donning a figure hugging Nensi Dojaka mini, and a monochrome PatBo little black dress both on the same day.

There’s really nothing she can’t pull off.
