Hugh Quarshie grew up in London, where he now lives with his Swedish health instructor wife Annika Sundstrom and their children Freya and Caspar. He spent the first three years of his life in Ghana, Africa, however, where he was born. After graduating from Oxford with a degree in politics, philosophy and economics he considered a career in journalism, but chose to become an actor instead, ending up touring with the Royal Shakespeare Company. His big break into film came with Eighties sci-fi fantasy Highlander, and he went on to appear in another well known space flick - Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. It's on the small screen that Hugh has notched up most of his appearances, though. He played Holby City medic Ric Griffin and notched up roles in a range of other shows, including Red Dwarf, Doctor Who, The Bill, Casualty. He's also appeared in children's preogrammes The Tomorrow People and Press Gang.
