Prince Charles lent his support to some anti-British revolutionaries on Monday as his trip to India drew to a close. The future king stepped into the breach when Indian freedom fighter Mangal Pandey found himself in need of a little technical assistance.
Fortunately the Prince of Wales was never in any danger, as the rebellion in question was being staged for a Bollywood film. Charles had come along to call "action" on The Rising, a love story set against the Indian Mutiny of 1857.
"The Rising – Take One – Start!" said the Prince as he snapped the clapperboard for director Ketan Mehta. He also met with popular Indian actor Aamir Khan, who plays the lead role in the movie.
"I am really honoured that Prince Charles came along for the opening shotI could never imagine ever being a part of something that turned out this beautiful," said Aamir. "He was asking us about the story and my character in the film. He was very knowledgeable and he knew about the Indian history of the time."
In 1857 Hindu and Muslim soldiers in India revolted against the British, after hearing that their gun cartridges were greased with animal fat forbidden by their faiths.
Charles also spent some time chatting with British actor Toby Stevens, who appears in the movie, but the flick's other star Aishwarya Rai was conspicuous by her absence. The former Miss World was unable to meet the royal visitor due to filming commitments in New Delhi.
