Having spent the last two weeks showing her husband and mother in law around her Argentinian homeland, the Netherlands' Crown Princess Maxima has now been immersing herself in the culture of her adopted country.

The pretty royal, who originally hails from Buenos Aires, was greeted by huge crowds of well-wishers as she toured the South American nation with Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and Queen Beatrix. And she received an equally rapturous reception in Amsterdam this week, when she turned out to open a new exhibition of the letters of Anne Frank.

Looking typically stylish in a tan-coloured hat with matching trousers and a grey wrap-around jacket, the mother of two went along to pay tribute to one of Holland's most celebrated historical figures.

Anne Frank's diary of her life in hiding in Nazi-occupied Amsterdam has made her a world famous icon of resistance against tyranny. The exhibition, which comprises letters the young Jewish girl wrote to her relatives in Switzerland before the invasion, provides new insights into her day-to-day experiences.
