Princess Caroline of Hanover has brought up her four children largely away from the spotlight. That doesn't mean they are anything less than confident on formal royal occasions, however, as her youngest daughter Alexandra proved when she delivered a charming royal wave of greeting to the crowds celebrating Monaco national day.

The beaming seven-year-old delighted onlookers at Sunday's festivities as she joined some of the more recognisable faces from the Grimaldi dynasty on the palace balcony after attending mass in the cathedral. Her sister Charlotte and handsome brothers Andrea and Pierre, from Caroline's marriage to the late Stefano Casiraghi, added glamour to the day's events.

Also saluting the assembled wellwishers were Albert's siblings Caroline and Stephanie, who were on hand to help their brother lead the principality's National Day celebrations.

Now celebrated on Saint Rainier's Day in honour of Albert's father, the principality's previous ruler, the holiday concluded with a spectacular evening firework display over the harbour.
