Prince Christian meets native fauna in mum's homeland

The animals who live in Bonorong Wildlife Park are used to being inspected by the curious eyes of visiting tourists. On Friday morning it was the humans who were garnering most attention, however, as Crown Princess Mary stopped by with her husband Frederik and baby boy Christian.

Denmark's future king was carrying the infant in his arms when the family arrived at the attraction, which is located just north of Hobart. And the one-year-old seemed keen to stick close to his father as he somewhat hesitantly made the acquaintance of a koala bear. The second-in-line soon gained confidence, though. Indeed some might say he got a little too sure of himself, as he later gave one wallaby a rather too excitable reception, flailing out with his little legs.

And Princess Mary kept a watchful eye on the youngster as he went on to meet a wombat, echidna and some blue-tongued lizards. The pregnant royal was also careful to avoid giving anything away as she fielded questions about the next addition to her family. "We don't know the colour yet," she replied when asked whether she had been buying pink or blue baby clothes of late.

The VIP couple are currently enjoying their first visit to Mary's hometown of Hobart since Christian was born a year ago.
