The Duchess of Cambridge charmed the North East last week while Prince William attended the funeral of his nanny. Now comes news that Kate will be taking undertaking another engagement without her husband, who is busy on RAF duties.
The Duchess of Cambridge will be representing William on Tuesday at a grand reception at Buckingham Palace to mark team GB's outstanding success at the London Olympics. She will join hosts the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh in welcoming Britain's top athletes, including Sir Chris Hoy and Mo Farah. "He’s had a lot of time off lately – with his Diamond Jubilee tour and so on – and he has to work," a courtier told a Daily Telegraph columnist. Kate is increasingly becoming more confident in the royal spotlight on her own, last week's royal visit being a prime example. More details of the trip have emerged – including one of the charities Kate spent time visiting. While in Stockon-on-Tees, the 30-year-old royal dropped in on M-PACT (Moving Parents and Children Together) – which helps children affected by parental drug and alcohol misuse. It is run by Action on Addiction - one of the four charities she became patron of after her marriage last year. "It is a subject she is clearly interested in”, says Nick Barton, the charity’s chief executive. "She chose us because she had realised that with many problems faced by young people, the trail always led to back to addiction of some sort, whether alcohol, drugs or something else."
