Prince William has revealed that he and his wife Kate Middleton are fans of parenting website Netmums, and that the new royal parents often use the website themselves. The Duke of Cambridge, who welcomed his first son Prince George in July last year, told the co-founders of Netmums that "he and Kate used it and so did their friends," said Siobhan Freegard, one of the mums who was honoured at an investiture ceremony on Tuesday.

The 46-year-old mother of three said she was "bowled over" by the royal seal of approval as she and fellow co-founders Cathy Court, 47, and Sarah Russell, 46, received OBEs at Buckingham Palace for their services to families. She added, "He said how much it's needed and how important it is. I talked to him about how isolated families feel these days and he gave me a knowing nod. "I get the feeling that they’re just normal parents who sit there Googling things like breast feeding issues just like the rest of us."

Fellow co-founder Sarah Russell said it was "lovely" William knew of the site. "Now being a parent [Prince William] understands the importance of websites, of Netmums, it was lovely to hear that he knows about it and it could be of use to him too."

Netmums is a network of local community websites where mothers discuss and exchange advice and tips on becoming new parents. It was founded in 2000 after its three co-founders met at a toddler group in Harlow. It is now the biggest parenting website in the UK, boasting more than 1.6 million members and a network of 151 local sites. Pete Tong joined the Netmums co-founders at Buckingham Palace. The superstar club DJ was awarded with an MBE for his career in broadcasting. The 53-year-old kicked off his career as a DJ before rising up the ranks to become a Radio One presenter and an in-demand producer.
