The Duchess of Cambridge is on the mend. Smiling and looking well, Kate left hospital on Thursday, four days after she was admitted suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum. At the same time, Prince Charles spoke out about the royal baby, saying he was "thrilled" that his daughter-in-law is pregnant, adding: "It's a very nice thought to become a grandfather in my old age. "Royal fans waiting for the first glimpse of the mum-to-be since her pregnancy announcement were pleased when she walked out of the front doors of the King Edward VII hospital wearing a checked blue coat and scarf and carrying a yellow bouquet of blooms. She was accompanied by Prince William who looked delighted to be finally taking his wife home. The happy father-to-be had arrived on Thursday morning at 10.15am, on his fourth day in a row of visiting the Duchess.
The husband-and-wife team paused for a moment to let photographers get a snap before walking to their car. William declined to respond to questions from the press but his wife told one reporter she is "doing much better". Kate will now spend some time recuperating at the couple's London home at Kensington Palace.St James' Palace released a statement on behalf of William and Kate, which read: ", Their royal highnesses would like to thank the staff at the hospital for the care and treatment the Duchess has received. "Kate spent three nights under observation for severe morning sickness, and was suffering from dehydration when she was admitted. To discharge her on Thursday, doctors must be satisfied she has sufficiently recovered, and it's likely the 30-year-old will have been given anti-sickness medication to keep her nausea under control.During the Duchess' stay there was a security breach. In the early hours of Wednesday morning, two presenters phoned the hospital pretending to be the Queen and Prince Charles and managed to obtain intimate medical information about the expectant royal.Believing them to be genuine, the nurse who answered the call at King Edward VII Hospital told them Kate had had "a comfortable night" and revealed private medical information.
A hospital spokesman said: "This call was transferred through to a ward and a short conversation was held with one of the nursing staff. King Edward VII's Hospital deeply regrets this incident." John Lofthouse, the hospital's chief executive, said: "This was a foolish prank call that we all deplore." In a statement, 2Day FM – the radio station behind the hoax - said they "sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused by the inquiry... The radio segment was done with the best intentions, we're glad to hear Kate is doing well and we wish her all the best." The presenters behind the prank, Mel Grieg and Michael Christian, said: "We were very surprised that our call was put through, we thought we'd be hung up on as soon as they heard our terrible accents. We're very sorry if we've caused any issues and we're glad to hear that Kate is doing well."
