Just days after showing off her cricket skills, the Duchess of Cambridge, née Kate Middleton, has turned her hand to archery on day five of the royal tour. The sporty Duchess had an attempt at Bhutan's national sport after watching a competitive archery game – and looked highly amused as her arrow appeared to miss the target.

Kate was assisted by her husband Prince William, who demonstrated how she should shoot the arrow as she took her aim. He joined in the applause when Kate aimed her bow and arrow at the target, and they both appeared amused as her arrow veered off course.

Kate looked typically stunning for the event in a Paul & Joe top paired with a skirt made from material worn and sourced in Bhutan. The 34-year-old topped off the look with £3,900 lavender Amethyst pear and oval drop earrings from Kiki McDonough and her trusty nude heels.

The Duke and Duchess arrived in Bhutan on Thursday morning, and were given an official welcome by the country's king and queen in the capital, Thimpu, at the former monastery of Tashichho Dzong, which is now used for ceremonial occasions, just a few hours later.

The royal couple laughed as Kate appeared to miss the target

They joined Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck for tea while watching the archery display, but it wasn't long before the sporty couple were invited to participate themselves – much to their amusement.

It is the second time Kate has put her sporting skills on display during the couple's royal tour of India and Bhutan. On the first day of the trip, the Duchess played a match of cricket with legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar at the Oval Maidan cricket ground.

William and Kate's first day in Bhutan will continue with a private dinner with the King and Queen on Thursday evening. On Friday they will take a trek to Tiger's Nest Monastery before attending a reception celebrating UK and Bhutanese friendship and co-operation.
