Jordanian royals sail the Adriatic

King Abdullah of Jordan and his wife Queen Rania are the latest high-profile visitors to hit the increasingly popular shores of Croatia.

Not long before they arrived, royal watchers spotted not one, but two luxury yachts often used by the couple – the 177ft Sarafsa and the 137ft Faribana – awaiting the king and queen's arrival in the port city of Split.

Sailing the Adriatic Sea region on a week-long break, the couple seemed to pack plenty of activities into their brief summer vacation.

Wearing dark green shorts and a khaki polo shirt, King Abdullah looked ready to explore as he and Rania disembarked from a tourist boat on the river Krka, close to Skradin. The area's centrepiece, sprawling Krka National Park, and its breathtaking waterfalls makes it a favourite for nature enthusiasts.

A pair of binoculars apparently came in handy on the trip, as the queen was spotted wielding a set as she wandered the streets of historic Split, which is one of the sunniest locations in Europe.

The queen and her husband clearly had fun in the sun on their minds as they sailed to the island of Hvar, frequently dubbed the Madeira of the Adriatic. The lush green isle attracts sightseers and sea-lovers alike with its scenic fishing ports, medieval architecture and marble-paved streets.
