Alanis Morissette has sold the home she lived in for some 21 years – and made a huge profit in the process. The Ironic singer bought her seven-bedroom, seven-bathroom home in Brentwood, Los Angeles for $1.79millon (around £1.37million in 1996), but has just sold it for $5.32million (around £4million), earning a cool $3.5million (£2.67million) profit.

It's easy to see why Alanis lived in the house for so long; the property is set behind gates in a private estate with a Mediterranean-style mansion that spans 5,152 square feet. And it had everything the You Oughta Know singer needed for her growing family, including a huge manicured garden complete with a swimming pool, children's play area and a half basketball court.
