Five tips for perfect lips on your wedding day

Wondering how to get the perfect smile?

You use your lips nonstop throughout your wedding day – greeting your guests, during the breakfast, and of course at the end of the ceremony…

So how do you keep your lips looking as kissable as they did from the moment you first had your make-up applied? In the weeks leading up to your wedding, there are a few things you can do to prepare your lips for the big day.

  • A good tip is to take an old toothbrush and gently brush your lips every night before you go to bed. This exfoliates away any dead skin on your lips and promotes circulation, leaving them ruby red. Once you’ve done this, a smudge of Vaseline will help to keep them moisturised whilst you sleep.
  • Especially at this time of year, lips can get very dry with cold temperatures and harsh winds, all of which dehydrates the outer layer of skin. Always remember to carry a chapstick with an SPF in your handbag, and apply it frequently even if you’re not outside.
  • Any form of tableware such as glasses are ‘enemies’ for your lips. A good tip is to carry a set of make-up remover wipes in your bag. When it comes to the wedding breakfast, slip off to the toilet and use the wipes to remove your lipstick and apply some clear gloss instead. This will ensure your lips still look great without having to worry about pesky lipstick marks on glasses.
  • Make the most of what you’ve got! Translucent colours give the illusion of bigger lips, so apply a little gloss in the centre of your bottom lip and apply a touch of illuminator just next to the corners of your mouth for the perfect smile.
  • Stock-up your make-up bag with the following: a base of foundation for your lips, a touch of powder, a lip pencil which is one shade lighter than your lipstick, and a lip brush. These steps will be more than enough to imitate the work of a professional makeup artist, even at three in the morning!
