Fab Fifties: Nancy's vintage style inspired by Wallis Simpson

October 13, 2011

If like the new Lady McCartney you have been married before and aren’t in the first flush of youth it can be difficult to pick the right gown. Luckily, Nancy Shevell had a little help from her new stepdaughter, Sir Paul’s girl Stella, the renowned fashion designer. Her dress was a beautiful ivory colour, with a fitted body, long sleeves puffed at the wrist and cut at the knee.

The simple look was perfect for the 51-year-old bride, maintaining a romantic yet formal aspect for their quiet civil ceremony. Adding to the air of sophistication the dress was inspired by Wallis Simpson’s outfit when she married the Duke of Windsor.

The American beauty teamed her dress with a subtle pair of earrings as her only accessory, keeping with the white gold theme of her wedding ring. She completed her outfit with a small, yet pretty posy of roses of varied tones – the same flowers that the guests showered the couple with as they left the registry office.

Nancy wore her dark hair loose and accessorized with a simple, yet delicate, flower. Cleverly, Sir Paul's new wife chose the most show-stopping outfit for her evening reception. She wore a striking plum-colored chiffon dress. Knowing the elegant brunette, who’s not afraid to show off her fabulous physique, it would have been revealing but classy. There was probably just a hint of sexiness to make sure all eyes were on her in the presence of guests like Twiggy and Kate Moss.
