Stars dare to bare: Would you go up the aisle in a backless dress?

May 7, 2012

One of 2012's most popular wedding trends has triumphed on the red carpet, too. Anne Hathaway grabbed attention as she dazzled in a sequinned number at the Golden Globes.

The sinuous backless dress, dropping from the shoulders to the small of the back, has become one of the sexiest gowns this season, on both the red carpet and the aisle. Designers Pronovias and Rosa Clará have based many of their current designs on these styles.Celebrities can't resist the trend either, with many stars recently choosing a more glamorous version for the red carpet, while maintaining the less vibrant bridal hues.

Julianne Hough, Rooney Mara, Carrie Underwood and Heidi Klum are amongst some of the famous faces opting for backless evening dresses in tones of white, nude, gold and caramel. The pale colours have a bridal feel about them, and the open back adds a daring twist to a more traditional wedding dress.

This style of plunging back tends to incorporate a fine mesh to hold the structure of the dress. Yet it still maintains the illusion of being almost invisible. Would you dare to go backless on your wedding day, or even as a guest? Let us know in the comments section below.
