The overwhelming response to male model Andrej Pejic, who wowed the crowd in a wedding dress, only increased the already high energy atmosphere at Barcelona Bridal Week’s first fashion show. When the queen of the Spanish bridal scene, Rosa Clara, shared the news on Twitter two days before her presentation, the presence of the striking Serbian provoked a wave of opinion, creating electric anticipation.

And the grand opening of Gaudí Novias 2013 certainly didn’t disappoint. Confidently parading the catwalk in a beautiful pink gauze confection, Andrej transformed himself into a spectacular, platinum-haired 'bride' and shattered the frontiers between sexes. Spotlights added to the atmosphere by changing in colour and intensity as more brides floated along the stage.

Rosa Clara began her label in the Nineties and her show is always one of the most anticipated – as proved by the enormous queue of guests, celebrities and press. It’s also the closest thing to haute couture in Spain, along with the spectacular designs from ‘Pronovias’. Visible and consistent motifs define each collection. And although her exquisite creations are finished off with unique details that remind us of high fashion, they are still economically accessible for many brides.

Pastel colour was the star of the new collection. Despite the designer’s fondness for the more traditional white, pale pink, sky blue and a delicious mint green – one of the definitive tones for this spring-summer season – were all represented. Two types of brides will love these beauties: 1) Lovers of light dresses, pleats and satin, ideal for summer nights thanks to fabrics such as gauze, tulle and silk 2) Those looking for volume, a real Clara classic. The voluminous appearance of both long and short dresses was enhanced by flower-stamped fabric, fashioned like shirts and coats

Fantasy fabrics with floral embroidery and patterns, which can be worn over the dress itself in the form of a transparent cape appeared thoughout. The exquisite simplicity of the designs was complemented by the ‘Clara formula’, a simple bun and a tiara, both of which work beautifully. Male model Andrej Pejic shines as best 'bride' at Barcelona Bridal Week
