Spanish designer Matilde Cano’s 2013 wedding party collection captures America’s Jazz Age opulence. Vintage-inspired designs incorporating a symphony of colours, fabrics and accessories filled the catwalk at this year’s Barcelona Bridal Week.
Recreations of the elaborately detailed headpieces that characterized women's fashion in the Twenties were prominent features in the collection.
The decade's new generation of liberated and daring young women, also known as Flappers, regarded the headpiece as an essential accessory to their playful image. Under strict instruction from the designer’s team of stylists, the make-up artists were to create a look that could be easily adapted to suit individuals’ hair colours and facial features.
Models were given a fresh look with a rosy blush to accentuate their cheekbones. Varying shades of bold burgundy lipsticks finished the look: brighter shades were used on models with fair skin whilst a coral hue was used on those with darker tones.
Applying a glimmering gold eye shadow is the secret to achieving this Roaring Twenties look. The iridescent shimmer brightens the eyes and is a nod to the glitz and glamour depicted in F Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. The distinctive tightly curled hairstyles of the era were brought up to date with looser, more natural waves, which are easily transformed into chic updos. Their wavy locks were accessorized by intricate vintage-inspired headpieces - the perfect finishing touch for Jazz Age glamour.
