Be bridal in Baroque: Get inspired by Anna Karenina

September 11, 2012

Director of Atonement and Pride & Prejudice, Joe Wright, recently released his newest adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's epic love story, Anna Karenina, which took cinema screens by storm on September 7.Interest in period films has boomed in recent years, so it's no surprise that this 19th century romance has made quite an impression.

Starring Keira Knightley and Jude Law, the visual work is stunning in terms of its spectacular special effects, elegant make-up and gorgeous costume designs. But the film isn't the only Karenina-inspired release this month. With the Baroque trend on the rise, Spanish bridal brand, YolanCris recently offered a sneak preview of its autumn-winter party collection.

Voluminous taffeta and seductive silk skirts  – a style reminiscent of the aristocratic designs worn by the Russian rulers in the 1800s – gives a warm bow to the fable and romance of this timeless literary masterpiece. The look can be rounded off with delicate ruffled blouses and knit tops decorated with handmade appliqués. With Kiera Knightley's own wedding to Klaxons' member James Righton fast approaching we wonder if she will draw inspiration from these designs for her gown choice.

Combine the glamour of the Russian ballroom with a wedding wardrobe by incorporating sweetheart necklines and flowing full-skirts. Keep impressionist motifs and embroidery white for a traditional feel and finish off with ornate jewellery.
