It's been a big few weeks for British Olympic skier Chemmy Alcott. Having just announced her retirement from the sport, she is now planning her wedding to fellow skier Dougie Crawford – and she has revealed all about her plans in an exclusive interview and photoshoot with HELLO! magazine."It is going to be the biggest day of my non-competitive life. I do want it to be very meaningful – this is a commitment," Chemmy says of her and Dougie's big day, which takes place in two months' time. "In Dougie I have found the perfect team-mate in life."
Recalling the romantic proposal, Chemmy tells
HELLO!: "I'd been waiting for this moment my whole life. It was at a perfect spot near a weeping willow. We had lunch and I was lying down sunbathing, and out of the corner of my eye I saw Dougie get up on one knee and I thought, 'Oh my God. Oh my God. Who gets up on one knee to propose? Isn't it supposed to be down on one knee?'Chemmy also explains the significance of her beautiful engagement ring - which features at its centre the diamond from her late mother’s engagement band. "Although I had always hoped to have it as my own engagement ring, when I looked at it, it made me think of her and miss her," she said. "I wanted her with me but not always with a feeling of sadness at missing her."
And the retired Olympian is in no doubt that Dougie is the man for her. "To meet someone who complements you in every way and yet is so different is amazing. We both want to fit so much into life, but he thinks about consequences and I just throw myself into things. I like to be impulsive and spontaneous whereas Dougie is conscious of outcomes."
