Geri Halliwell showed off her engagement ring for the first time in public on Tuesday. Her happy news had been announced in national newspaper The Times, just hours before.Spotted out and about in London, Geri's joie de vivre was evident as she went about her daily routine. The former Spice Girl made no attempt to hide her beautiful new accessory, keeping her left hand clearly on show.

"The sparkling round diamond appears to be approximately 2.0ct and is set in a traditional solitaire setting," said expert David Allen at 77 Diamonds. "A far cry from the look at me diamond rings worn by some of her former bandmates, Christian has selected a timeless piece for Geri that will have set him back nearly £80,000."
The singer's engagement to her partner, Red Bull Formula One team boss Christian Horner, appeared in the Births, Marriages and Deaths section of the newspaper. The £324 listing read: "Mr C.E.J. Horner OBE and Geri Halliwell, The engagement is announced between Christian, son of Mr and Mrs G.M. Horner and Geraldine, daughter of the late Mr L.F. Halliwell and Mrs A Parkinson."

The couple have been friends since 2009, and publicly dating since March. It had been rumoured that they were close to tying the knot. Geri and Christian, 40, both have children from their previous relationships. The pop star is mum to eight-year-old daughter Bluebell with Sacha Gervasi. Christian, meanwhile, recently split from his partner of 14 years Beverley Allen, with whom he has a one-year-old daughter Olivia. Geri and Christian's newspaper notice follows that of Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch, who placed a similar announcement in last week's paper revealing his engagement to theatre director Sophie Hunter. Other celebrities to have revealed their engagements in The Times include Eddie Redmayne to Hannah Bagshawe and comedian David Mitchell to Victoria Coren.
