Solange Knowles is getting married this weekend in New Orleans, US media reports. Beyoncé's younger sister will reportedly tie the knot with longtime love Alan Ferguson in a private family ceremony. The groom is a 51-year-old video music director who has been a collaborator with the Knowles family for some time, as well as working with Katy Perry, Nelly Furtado and John Legend.

In 2012, he picked up a BET award for video director of the year from the bootylicious diva. Alan is so close the Knowles he was at the reconciliatory family lunch organised by Bey following the shocking lift incident  involving her husband Jay Z and Solange. This weekend's wedding party features three days of celebration in the southern city, starting with a movie night on Friday, followed by a rehearsal dinner the next day with the ceremony itself reserved for Sunday.

Guest of honour will, undoubtedly, be Solange's 10-year-old son Julez from her first marriage. Also expected is Kelly Rowland, whom the bride regards as an honorary sister. Solange attended her secret wedding earlier this year in Costa Rica and congratulated her on the recent birth of her son.

The DJ and singer doesn't often talk about her private life, but she did post pictures of the couple hugging during a Jamaican holiday in June to celebrate her 28th birthday. It's thought that Alan had proposed the day before.

His fiancée later deleted the images but the accompanying caption was telling. Solange had written: "Today couldn't have been more perfect. I couldn't have smiled harder. Thank you for all of your lovely and wonderful wishes. They warmed my heart and I simply feel grateful for all of the love."

In March, she told one magazine: "Luckily, I dated all of the losers ages ago. My love life has been stable for a while" Solange also revealed one unexpected side effect of being so happy: "Without conflict it's a lot harder to write interesting songs."

The young mother has said that despite Alan's image as a successful, suave older man, she's the one who did the chasing. "Certainly, in the beginning I was the one who approached him so I have always sort of historically been one of those girls that goes after something that I'm into."

I'm not very old school and, like, I'm gonna wait on you. Wait for you to approach me type of situation. "I have a lot of guy-like quintessential relationship qualities that I have had to work on."
