Hollyoaks star James Sutton announces engagement to Kit Williams

Hollyoaks actor James Sutton is engaged. The soap star, who plays John Paul McQueen in the Chester-based Channel 4 show, proposed to his girlfriend Kit Williams while on a romantic holiday in Barbados. "She said yes," James captioned a photo of himself with Kit having dinner during their Caribbean vacation.

Model Kit also announced the exciting news to her social media followers, writing: "So I said yes and this happened.... @thejamessutton," along with a photo of a congratulatory desert. Another photo showed the Liverpool-based couple arm-in-arm and clutching glasses of champagne with bride-to-be Kit's engagement ring sparkling on her left hand. The couple were swiftly inundated with messages of congratulations. Hollyoaks' official Twitter account led the way, writing: "Awww, big congratulations to you guys! x"

"Ahhh congratulations Sir!!!!" wrote James's Hollyoaks co-star Nikki Sanderson, who played Maxine. "So happy for u both xxxx." Kirsty-Leigh Porter, who stars as Leela Lomax, sent her well-wishes to James and Kit. "Oh mate... Huge congratulations!" she wrote. "You've broken my little cold heart! Feel like a proud mum. Love to you both!" James, who celebrated his 32nd birthday on 31 January, later thanked everyone for their kind words. "Thanks for all the congratulations messages," he wrote. "On our engagement and the birthday ones too.

"I'm having a great birthday," he jokingly added alongside a photo of himself on an empty train. Former Emmerdale star James was born James Cook, but adopted the stage surname Sutton from his hometown of Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands. After finding fame in 2006 when he first played JP in Hollyoaks, James went on to enjoy roles in Casualty, Scott & Bailey, Holby City and Bedlam.
