Danny Dyer is to marry his long-term girlfriend Joanne Mas after she popped the question on Valentine's Day, the couple have revealed in an exclusive interview and photoshoot with HELLO! magazine.
The EastEnders star says he never expected childhood sweetheart Joanne – the mother of his three children – to propose.
"It was a complete bolt out of the blue but I'm so glad she did it because I don't think I could have taken the rejection," the actor told HELLO! magazine. "I love the fact Jo proposed."
Jo added: "I've always wanted to marry Danny and I decided that if I didn't get things moving, it would never happen. I never wanted to get married when the children were babies because I wanted to let my hair down and enjoy the day. But we have had our little boy now and we're not going to have any more so the time is right."
The couple also revealed that they are preparing one of the biggest showbusiness weddings of the year in the summer of 2016, with several of Danny's co-stars from past and present on the guest list.
And Joanne said she has forgiven him for his infidelities. "It's been hard but I've got over it," she said. "When you have children, it isn't just about me and Danny. I wouldn't destroy the lives of my babies for something that doesn't matter."
Danny added that he will never stray again. "I thought the grass was greener – but the grass was horrible and I don't ever want to go there again," he admitted.
Last January the Albert Square favourite took home the Serial Drama Performance prize at the National Television Awards.
Taking to the stage to accept his gong, Danny, 37, dedicated his award to Joanne and the couple's children. "I love her to death," he told the audience. "And I want to thank my kids, Dani, Sunnie and Arty because without them I'd be a tenth of the man I am today, and that's not saying much!"
