Andy Murray and Kim Sears to marry at Dunblane Cathedral

March 22, 2015

Andy Murray and Kim Sears' forthcoming wedding won't be as intimate as it was first thought. According to new reports the couple will tie the knot at Dunblane Cathedral and not at the Cromlix House Hotel's private chapel as previously believed, allowing members of the public to enjoy their special day with them. The Stirling Observer claims that Andy and Kim's nuptials will take place on Saturday 11 April in the Scottish city's cathedral, after it was published in the list of intended marriages in the window of the town's Burgh Chambers last week.

Dunblane Cathedral, which is located three miles from Andy's luxury hotel, has the capacity for 300 guests and features a bell tower dating back to the 11th century. The venue holds particular significance for the Perthshire city as it was where many of the funerals took place for the victims of the 1996 Dunblane Massacre, which claimed the lives of 16 children and a teacher at Dunblame Primary School – where Andy was a pupil at the time. On Andy and Kim's big day, members of the public are expected to line the streets outside the cathedral to celebrate with the former Wimbledon champion and his long-term love. "I'm sure it will be a popular decision, as he's had so much support from the people of Dunblane in the past," the tennis player's uncle Niall Erskine told the Daily Mail. "Andy is looking forward to bringing all his family and friends to Dunblane. I'm sure lots of people will come down to see the cars as they go past and it will be a very popular day."

While Reverend Colin Renwick, the cathedral's minister, was not able to confirm the location of the pair's wedding, he said the local sportsman's special day would no doubt be honoured by his fans. "Wherever the wedding will be, there is excitement because there is a great deal of affection for Andy in Dunblane and a great deal of pride in him," he told the newspaper. "I think people are genuinely very pleased for him." It is still thought that after saying "I do" at the cathedral, Andy and Kim will hold their reception at the Cromlix House Hotel, which was where the 27-year-old's brother Jamie married Venezuelan actress and model Alejandra Gutierrez.

Andy and Kim were previously thought to be marrying in the private chapel at the Cromlix House Hotel

Jamie, 29, who asked Andy to be his best man in 2010, will return the favour for his younger brother next month. Andy will also have two other best men, his friends Ross Hutchins and Carlos Mier. "The thing for me is it's double standards in a way with the guys and girls," he said. "Kim has four bridesmaids and I was saying well, 'why is that fine for you?' Imagine you had to pick one of your four best friends which you've had since you were at school. It's very difficult to chose one."
