Rosa Clará reveals 2016 wedding dresses at Barcelona Bridal Week

May 6, 2015

Barcelona Bridal Week returned with a bang on Tuesday and there was only one designer to kick off proceedings – the Catalan household name Rosa Clará. The fashion house, who usually opens the event, showcased its 2016 collection with a fresh range of trends for brides to be inspired by.

With over 10,000 wedding dresses set to be unveiled over the next few days, Rosa Clará put in a strong fight for brides' attention.

The magnificent ball gown once again took over the width of the runway but its traditional silhouette was given a makeover.

Rosa Clará gave the Princess-style ball gown a very modern makeover

Rosa Clará's new creations had a very modern twist – the designer added thick belts to accentuate the wearer's figure, but also split one ball gown down the middle, to reveal a much shorter mid-thigh skirt underneath for the boldest of brides to flaunt.

Tea-length dresses were also on trend, this time finished off with high boat necklines, delicate floral motifs and the same thick belts. Other gowns were completed with jewel-encrusted waist belts, again to enhance the bride's figure.

Traditional fabrics seen on the runway included Mikado and Ottoman silk

Voluminous skirts and flowing trains made a comeback on the runway, all amounting to simplicity and grace.

With a handful of gowns, Rosa Clará used traditional fabrics such as guipure lace, Mikado silk and Ottoman silk. She juxtaposed the elaborate designs of the silk with clean-cut silhouettes, simple straps, and three-quarter length sleeves.

Brides who want to channel old Hollywood glamour may opt for this strapless, shimmery number

The more romantic bride may have been drawn to the sheer tulle and transparent tulle dresses, one of which featured a chic V back.

The Hollywood glamour bride would be more suited to Rosa Clará's strapless numbers, which featured sweetheart necklines and columns of shimmery beads.

In keeping with tradition, Rosa Clará opened Barcelona Bridal Week

With the hype surrounding the annual bridal fair, which is now in its 25th year, a host of celebrities flocked to the event.

Princess Sofia of Habsburg was pictured sitting front row at Rosa Clará, as were regular attendees Antonella Roccuzzo and Daniella Semaan, the girlfriends of Lionel Messi and Cesc Fabregas respectively.

Other designers among the 200 brands showcasing their 2016 collection include Jesús Peiró, Justin Alexander, Miquel Suay and Cabotine. In keeping with tradition, the final day of the event will belong to celebrity-favourite Pronovias who will close the show on Friday night.
