Congratulations to Mariah Carey and James Packer who are engaged to be married. Australian billionaire James is believed to have popped the question on Thursday evening in New York City – the singer's hometown – after a fairytale seven-month romance. It comes as no surprise that James asked Mariah to be his wife; the couple started dating in June last year, and from that moment "fell head over heels in love with one another", a source told E! News. "It's crazy how perfect they are together, they both know it and couldn't be happier."

Mariah and 48-year-old James – who is Australia's fourth richest person - first met at the premiere of Hercules in 2014. They made their red carpet debut as a couple in September 2015 at The Intern premiere in New York City after being photographed looking cosy on an Italian holiday together in June. Just before Christmas, the couple headed to Aspen, Colorado with the 46-year-old singer's four-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan, her children with ex-husband Nick Cannon.

"As soon as their friendship turned romantic, they have wanted to spend every moment together," the insider added. "They have a connection that is unparalleled; it has been a very beautiful experience for them both. If you spend five minutes with them, you can't help but believe in true love."

This will be the third marriage for both. Mariah, who was married to Tommy Mottola from 1993 until 1997, announced her split from America's Got Talent host Nick in 2014. James, meanwhile, was married to model Jodhi Meares from 1999 until 2002. He has three children from his six-year marriage to Erica Packer – seven-year-old daughter Indigo, five-year-old son Jackson and three-year-old Emmanuelle. The couple were amicably divorced at the end of 2013.
