Jesse Metcalfe engaged to girlfriend of 10 years Cara Santana

August 17, 2016

Congratulations to Jesse Metcalfe and his long-term girlfriend Cara Santana! The couple, who have been together for over ten years, are engaged.

Jesse popped the question during a romantic sunset boat trip on the Hudson River in New York over the weekend, Us Weekly reports. The actor surprised his other half with a 5.5 carat emerald diamond ring.

The former Desperate Housewives star confirmed: "It's been a long time coming, but we couldn't be happier."

It was a double celebration for Jesse, 37, and his fashion blogger girlfriend. Cara thought the sailing trip was organised for her 31st birthday but her boyfriend had actually planned the sweetest proposal.

Their song – Eric Clapton's Pretty Girl – played in the background as Jesse got down on one knee.

He posted a photo of the couple onboard the 50-foot liner, writing on Instagram: "What a weekend! Meant to get this up yesterday, but was too busy celebrating. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my baby!!!" He also shared a snapshot of their iridescent sunset.

The couple celebrated their happy news with their closest family and friends. Cara shared a group photo, writing: "Festivities // Sorry Dad, You Missed The Photo // Thanks To Everyone For The All The #BDay Wishes."

She also marked the day with her close friend, actress Jamie Chung, and gave fans a glimpse of her new engagement ring in a photo posted on Instagram. "Spoiled // I Have The Most Wonderfully Sweet Friends In All The World // @JamieJChung // @CalliCholo // As I Get Older I Couldn't Ask For A Better Gift," she wrote.

Jesse has previously had to refute rumours that he had popped the question to Cara. Back in 2014 he said: "You know what, I'm not engaged. That's some misinformation. I swear to God man, that's some misinformation that has been floating around out there."

"That's not to say we won't get engaged and won't get married, it seems to be going in that direction, but not yet," he added.

The John Tucker Must Die star also spoke about meeting Cara years ago. He told Your Tango: " I wouldn't say it was love at first sight. It was more of a slow burn, which I think is a better start for a relationship. I think if it comes on fast and furious, it generally fizzles out just as fast. We were slow and steady."
