Jamie Oliver and his wife of 23 years Jools may have chosen traditional wedding outfits for their second nuptials, but their five children threw out the rulebook with their matching ensembles.

Poppy, 21, Daisy, 20, Petal, 14, Buddy, 12, and River, six, were pictured celebrating on the beach in the Maldives with their loved-up parents wearing white and blue – two potentially controversial options.

Typically, it's considered impolite for wedding guests to wear white to prevent upstaging the bride, who looked beautiful in an ivory off-the-shoulder gown with a front slit, paired with a tulle bow in her hair.

But Jamie and Jools' daughters channelled royal bridesmaids who often wear white dresses, potentially due to a historical belief that it deters evil spirits. Poppy and Daisy looked elegant in bridal white midi dresses with ruffle straps while Petal opted for a shorter dress with a shirred waist in a coordinating hue.

Meanwhile, Buddy and River looked smart in loose white shirts and blue shorts, much like their father's Paul Smith pastel blue suit he recycled from his 2000 wedding. Blue is also a symbolic wedding colour as it is often a big part of the 'something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue' tradition.

Since their beachside vow renewal technically marked the couple's third wedding celebration – following their June 2000 ceremony at All Saints Church in Essex and their tenth wedding anniversary party which saw Jools wear another bridal gown – we can't imagine there was any friction about the colour choices!

Jamie and Jools had originally planned to say 'I do' again on the couple's milestone 20th anniversary, but the celebrity chef explained on BBC Breakfast that they had been forced to delay the wedding for three years amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The couple renewed their vows 23 years after their Essex wedding

Speaking about their motivation to celebrate after 23 years of marriage, he admitted that he wanted to show his children "their parents are tight" and prove they have "earned" their vows.

"I wanted to do it on the 20-year anniversary, which was three years ago. Covid obviously put an end to that, and I just felt that with the kids leaving school and going to university – I have got two in Leeds at uni – it was just a nice moment to let them know that their parents are tight and we love them," he told hosts Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty.
