Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin, currently making his off-Broadway debut in Madame Melville, has called Michael Jackson his “best friend” in an upcoming interview.

The 20-year-old actor and godfather to Jackson’s son Prince Michael and daughter Paris, calls the King of Pop “one of my very best friends in the world.” Their strong bond reportedly stems from a similar past: both claim to have suffered at the hands of abusive fathers.

“Michael and I had an understanding about my father,” Macaulay said. “He knew what that was all about it. He lived it.”

Macaulay accuses his father Kit Culkin of hitting him, his siblings and his mother. While the family profited from his movie success, the rising star was often forced to sleep on the couch of their apartment. “He beat our spirits down,” said the actor.

In the New York magazine piece, Macaulay also addresses the 1993 molestation charges brought against Jackson, saying: “I would have liked to say something in his defense. I still wish I had.”

Macaulay is estranged from his father, who he has accused of making off with boxes of his movie keepsakes.
