After a five-year absence, the outrageous Absolutely Fabulous will return to screens on both sides of the Atlantic with a new series and a bevy of high wattage guest stars including Madonna, Naked Chef Jamie Oliver, and socialite Lady Victoria Hervey.
“It’s a tremendous coup to have Madonna involved in Ab Fab,” one insider said. “When she turns up, it will inevitably draw a more mainstream audience to what is now a quintessentially English show.”
But Ab Fab, a huge success on BBC1, has already become something of a cult hit in the US, prompting a recent Stateside release of the original series on DVD. The show found a niche on the irreverent network Comedy Central, home to South Park and Win Ben Stein’s Money, and will likely get a boost from the Material Mom’s appearance.
The Absolutely Fabulous team, featuring Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders, recently joined forces for the telepic Mirrorball, prompting a continued reunion. “We had such a great time making the spin-off that we all wanted to work together again,” author Jennifer explained recently. New instalments of Ab Fab should hit the small screen later this year.
