Popular TV presenter and radio personality Zoe Ball is saying goodbye to Radio 1 to spend more time with her six-month-old son Woody.

“I’ve decided not to sign up for any work for the foreseeable future because I really want to take more time to be a mum,” she says. “Working on The Priory again has been great but I haven’t signed up to do another series. Things are different when you’ve got a child – with Woody here, commuting is hard.”

Radio 1 executives were so eager to keep Zoe on the air they reportedly offered her an afternoon show built around her baby’s schedule. However, not even a tempting offer can tear the proud mum away from baby Woody. “I’ve decided not to go back to it. It’s something I’ve really enjoyed and I guess if Radio 1 were in Brighton where we live I might consider it,” says the the former Live And Kicking presenter. “But as it stands right now, it’s more important to be spending time with Woody and my husband Norman as a family.”

Earlier this week, Zoe accompanied Norman Cook, aka DJ Fatboy Slim, to the Dance Star music awards where he took home the gong for Best Breakbeat Act. “He’s got so many awards that he needs another mantelpiece to put them on,” she says. “But every time he’s nominated he still gets really nervous. I’m just really proud of him.”

Will Woody follow in his dad’s footsteps? “I don’t expect Woody to be a DJ or anything – I hope and expect when he grows up that he’ll be a librarian,” jokes Zoe.

The happy couple, who recently discussed adding a baby girl to the family, are now off to Ibiza on holiday.
