Radiant in a stunning cobweb lace gown by Antony Price, Camilla Parker Bowles was at Prince Charles's side Monday night for a glamorous fundraiser that drew fashionistas and elite from all spheres.
Everyone from Mick Jagger to Naomi Campbell descended on the picturesque Waddesdon Manor in Buckinghamshire for the 'It's Fashion' bash, whose proceeds went to the Macmillan Cancer relief fund.
The £5,000-per-table event drew personalities from the worlds of design, business, music and film. Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen and Giorgio Armani were on hand, as well as billionaires from the Getty family. Patsy Kensit, Jemma Kidd and Kylie Minogue adorned the event, as did Elizabeth Hurley and Jade Jagger. Even President George W Bush’s model niece Laura flew in, sporting a denim jacket over a white gown. And by the time the last glass of champagne disappeared, the charity was £500,000 richer.
The Prince of Wales and Camilla, confessed fans of soap Coronation Street, found a minute to chat with actress Amanda Barrie, whose on-screen character is suffering from cancer. “Have you gone yet?”, Charles joked, before inquiring as to whether portraying the patient was hard, to which she smartly replied: “It’s not as difficult as having cancer.” The story line, though decidedly atypical Corrie fare, has inspired thousands of viewers. Since the story began, “there’s been a huge increase in smear tests and scans,” reports Amanda.
Camilla will join Prince Charles again on Tuesday evening for a reception at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh.
