Rock purists cried foul when teen queen Britney Spears released a cover version of the Rolling Stones classic Satisfaction last year, but it seems Mick Jagger himself has taken a liking to the bubblegum track. The lothario rocker now aims to enlist the song’s producer Rodney Jerkins for his own upcoming solo project slated for an autumn release.
“Mick’s daughter purchased the Britney Spears record, and Mick apparently heard Spears’s version of his song Satisfaction through the walls of her bedroom,” says a publicist for producer Jerkins. “So Mick asked who it was, and when he listened closely, he really liked Rodney’s production. So there’s been some talk about Jagger and Jerkins working together.”
Mick has been recording his fourth solo disc in studios on both sides of the Atlantic – reportedly even sharing a tryst with model Sophie Dahl during one session – and has rounded up a corp of A-list talent to aid him in the endeavor. He’s even met with rapper Missy Elliott to discuss a duet.
Lenny Kravitz, who previously teamed with Rolling Stones frontman on Mick’s 1993 album Wandering Spirit is involved again, as are Pete Townshend of The Who and Matchbox Twenty’s Rob Thomas.
“Mick and I got together for a couple of days in New York and worked on a few songs,” says Grammy winner Rob, who enjoyed a successful collaboration with legend Carlos Santana on 1999’s Supernatural.
“I’m not writing for Mick Jagger,” Rob said. “It was more like me going to learn from Mick Jagger. As a writer, this kind of thing is invaluable. There’s no way you can go to any seminar and get what you can from sitting in a room with someone like that and watching them pick up when they have a spark of creativity and go at it.”
