Seven times Grand Slam winner Andre has confirmed the news that his partner Steffi Graf is five months pregnant. "This is a very exciting time for us," he said in a statement. "We are so happy to have been blessed with this gift."
According to leading German newspaper Bild, the former German tennis champ's mother, Heidi, had been telling friends that her daughter was expecting. She had even gone so far as to share news of the baby's sex- it is a boy.
Rumours over the pregnancy and whether the two had tied the knot in a secret ceremony abounded during Wimbledon, fuelled by the gold band Steffi, 32, was sporting on her wedding finger. At the time, both stars refused to be drawn on the subject.
Ever since her retirement from the tennis circuit, the seven times Wimbledon tennis champion, who runs a foundation for traumatised and disadvantaged youngsters called Children For Tomorrow, has made no secret of her love of kids. Her last interview with the German publication quoted her as saying: “I am crazy about children” and talked of her fondness for her brother’s two offspring.
Steffi and Andre – who was formerly married to actress Brooke Shields – have been together for two years and share a £10 million home in Las Vegas.
