Westlife heart-throb Shane Filan is about to sign a five-album solo deal which could mark the end for the top-selling Irish boy band. And while the quintet was reportedly planning a US onslaught this fall, it seems their future is now in jeopardy.

“The label has been in talks with Shane over the last few months in regards to his future as a solo artist,” says an insider at the band’s record company, RCA. “After months of negotiations, he is close to signing a deal which would see him produce five albums of his own material for the label. He is a wonderful talent with an amazing voice and we believe he can last the distance.”

Rumours of a possible Westlife split have been circulating for months as band member Bryan McFadden and his fiancée Kerry Katona, formerly of Atomic Kitten, await the birth of their first child in September. “Bryan and Kerry’s baby will spell the end of Westlife,” reports the source. “It is inevitable.”

“They have one more single, When You’re Looking Like That, due for release in the next couple of months… and it may well be their last,” says the insider. Westlife is reportedly planning a greatest hits album which will take material from their first two wildly successful discs.

The record-breaking lads, who’ve seen eight of their nine singles reach number one in the UK, have just signed on as spokesmen for Cadbury’s Wispa bars, with each group member receiving their own signature label.
